Bicycle Sidecar

What’s up world?

Today I was talking to a friend of mine and we ended up arranging a bicycle trip to the beach. For those of you who think that going t the beach by bicycle is like going to the grocery store buying milk, it isn’t… We are thinking of traveling 136 km (85 miles) each way under the incredible summer sun.

We thought about building a sidecar, and the way we want to build one isn’t the easy one…

This is one of the most beautiful and functional I've seen so far

When he said sidecar, the first thing that came to mind was one of these:

sidecar02Not too hard to build, isn’t too expensive and it could be used to carry our bags (we were going to stay at the beach for a week).

The main component (and why it would be cheap) would be a common shopping cart.

We could take it apart and make the frame and stuff… It would be extremely easy to make!

But what he wants to make is a sidecar where the passenger helps with the pedaling… And the most frustrating part is the conceptualization, because we have to engineer a way for both of us to propel the bike at the same speed – imagine me on the sidecar pedaling at double his speed, we would ride in circles, or even worse, fall.

I’m sure we’ll find a way… I’ll keep you posted.

It’s a running joke that Tumblr is fueled by two things: hipsters and fandoms.  But mostly fandoms. Seriously, I dare you to find a hipster photography post that doesn't get hijacked by the Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sherlock, or Merlin fandom at some point. I dare you.

The beautiful thing about social media like Tumblr is that it has generated even more participatory culture amongst fangirls and fanboys everywhere.

According to Google’s new n-gram tool, when researching history, words count.

Literally.

By analyzing over 500 billion words from 5.2 million books in Chinese, English, French, German, Russian, and Spanish, the n-gram tool allows users to track the usage of words from 1500AD onwards.

The implications of this tool in terms of historical and cultural research are just beginning to come to light.

Looking back, it's interesting to see how the way Apple has described itself has changed over the years. Luckily for us, press releases usually include a definition of the company issuing them. I've been back through Apple's site and used The Wayback Machine at Archive.org to research the evolution of the way Apple sees itself.

How to survive a zombie apocalypse – Part 2

Before we continue we must clarify some things.
There are three kinds of “human-beings” – the living (those who are still breathing and making decisions), the dead (the ones who already took a bullet, arrow or knife to the head), and the zombies (no need to explain that one).

How to survive a zombie apocalypse

First of all, I’m not one of those people who want zombie-like scenarios to happen more than anything. I’m just a huge fan of The Walking Dead, and I’m sharing some of the tips I got from watching their mistakes.

If you want to know how to survive in different scenarios, I will post something later.

The Walking Dead is set in the United States. As I’m European I will assume that somethings happen the way they did on the show.
